Choosing a code strategy
- - Unique: Generate a unique access code per reservation
- - Phone Last 4: Use the last 4 digits of the guest phone number
No matter which option you choose, we will attempt to match the code across all devices that are assigned to the property. It will be valid only on the days of the reservation, for the times you configured for the property. If for any reason we are unable to set a code, or unable to match it across devices, we will attempt to set a fallback code and provide helpful information so you can choose how to proceed (or contact us to us for assistance).
Unique Code Strategy
If you choose the Unique option we will generate and set a unique random code for each reservation, taking into account any existing codes and device restrictions. The length of the code will depend on what your lock(s) support.
If you have multiple locks assigned to the property, we will attempt to set the same code on all of them for the guest's convenience. We will choose the shortest common code length when matching across devices. If no common code length exists between locks, we will generate the longest code and shorten it for the other lock(s). The table below shows examples of what happens when mixing locks with different supported code lengths:
Supported Code Lengths | Example generated code |
Lock #1: 4 digits Lock #2: 4-8 digits | Lock #1: 1234 Lock #2: 1234 |
Lock #1: 6 digits Lock #2: 4-8 digits | Lock #1: 123456 Lock #2: 123456 |
Lock #1: 6 digits Lock #2: 4 digits | Lock #1: 123456 Lock #2: 1234 |
Phone Last 4 Strategy
This is a common approach where you use the last 4 digits of the phone number of the guest. If it is provided to us in the reservation details we will set it automatically. If it is not provided, we will fallback to using the Unique strategy to set a generated code. You can replace the generated code with the customer's phone number manually by clicking the Edit button next to the reservation and entering it, or choose to send your guest the generated code.
